What is a partial rewire?
A partial rewire is exactly what the name suggests - the electrical rewiring of one room or area of your Windsor home. A partial rewire may be carried out due to damage that is restricted to one area, when carrying out upgrades such as a new kitchen or when renovating one floor of your home.
When should I consider a partial rewire?
If you’re planning on revamping either your kitchen or bathroom, we consider these rooms to be high risk due to the sheer number of appliances used and the big factor of water in the presence of electricity. Give our friendly team a call so that we can discuss the best time to carry out a partial rewire. It can be troublesome and costly to perform any rewiring work once features like tiling, cupboard, bathroom features or walls have been plastered should electric faults be identified.
As experienced electrical engineers, we like to be honest with our customers and will only be able to conduct a partial rewire if the electrics at your property are in a good condition. If this is not the case, we would of course recommend that you opt for a full rewire of your property.
Damaged electrics? Time for a partial rewire.
On some occasions, you may find you are forced to consider a partial rewire at your property. If the electrics in one area of your property or in one particular room are damaged but the rest of your electrical circuits and installations are quite modern and function well, we would suggest a partial rewire.
As NICEIC approved engineers, we would initially conduct a thorough inspection of the permanent electrical features, circuits and components at your property and provide you with a full report known as an EICR or Electrical Installation Conditioning Report.
Here are some common caused of damage to electrical circuits at your property which would ultimately require a partial rewire.
- Overload of power- If there are surges of power caused by the sheer number of electrical appliances used at once in homes with older electrical wiring, the PVC outer coat found on electrical wires can overheat and increase the risk of a fire.
- Age of wiring- Like many homes in Windsor, there may be newer additions to our home such as a loft conversion or kitchen extension. Any recent circuits that were installed would of course be in line with current industry standards but there may be some parts of your home that need to be modernised and hence require a partial rewire.
- Weather- The Great British weather means you may be at the mercy of torrential downpour and flooding. Any such water leaks caused by excess rainfall can pose great damage to electric circuits in your home and will need to be replaced. If most of the damage caused by rainfall or water leaks is only in one particular area of your home, you might want to consider a partial rewire.
