As your local rewire specialists in Bracknell, here at Thames Valley Electricians we are asked many questions about rewiring houses.
One of the most common is “how disruptive is rewiring a house?”. To help allay your fears, we’re here to tell you all about the process of rewiring your Bracknell house and let you know how disruption you can expect.
What to expect during a rewire
There is no getting around it, rewiring your Bracknell house is going to cause some disruption and mess. Rewiring your house involves removing and then replacing the entire electrical installation including the wiring, sockets, switches, and the fuse board. It is best if you can vacate the property during the rewire process as some areas will be off limits as the electrician’s work. Your electrician will have to lift floorboards and any floor coverings such as carpets, cut channels into the walls and access every space within your home. This will inevitably cause dust and some damage to the fabric of your Bracknell home. However, there is some good news, by choosing an experienced, reputable electrician such as Thames Valley Electricians you can ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum. A good rewire electrician will have excellent working practices in place to keep your home as tidy as possible. They will ensure any damage to your plastering is repaired as part of the process, meaning less disruption for you and no need to try to coordinate with other tradespeople.
The rewiring process
Here at Thames Valley Electricians, we have a tried and tested routine for rewiring a home with a minimum of fuss and disruption. We understand that rewiring can be a stressful process and have worked hard to develop a system that is highly efficient. We aim to complete a rewire in an average sized home in 3 days.
Our rewire process at Thames Valley Electricians is as follows:
⚡Day one: Our first task it to mark out new socket and switch positions. We will have already discussed these positions with you during our pre-rewire discussion. We will put out dust sheets in all areas of your home where chasing out will occur. We use a special dust extraction chaser and angle grinder that helps minimise the dust created. All chasing will be carried out on day one, giving time for the dust to settle. Carpets and floorboards will begin to be lifted and holes will be drilled to provide passage for cabling.
⚡Day two: Cabling and hardware will be installed at the pre-planned locations in your home. Your new fuse board will be installed. By the end of day 2, all cabling will be installed, and your Bracknell home will be prepped ready for our plasterer to repair your walls.
⚡Day three: Our plasterer will attend your home and make good the walls. They will bond and plaster the chases in your walls, repairing any damage. We will then perform the 2nd fix, installing switches and socket covers, before energising all circuits and performing full function testing. Lastly, we clean everything up, leaving your home tidy, clean and with safe new wiring.
