Do you have a rewire scheduled to take place soon? You may be wondering how to best prepare your home for a rewire to avoid damage to your possessions and make your electricians life just that little bit easier.
Thankfully there are many precautions you can take before the rewire begins and in this blog post we’ll go over these and what your electrician will also do preparation wise.
Preparation for a rewire:
As you’re probably aware a rewire is messy. Here at Thames Valley Electricians we take many different precautions to ensure you belongings remain as they are. One example of this is covering sofas and other soft furnishings with dust sheets. Wondering how else can you prepare your home? Read on!
- Keep areas of importance clear: Your electrician will need easy access to your loft and fusebox. It’s also a good idea to move items blocking sockets and switches.
- Move large items away from walls: If you have the means to, moving items into the middle of the room will save a lot of time as it will allow your team of electricians to get straight to work.
- Pack away small items: Unfortunately we can’t promise smaller items will be safe, so we strongly advise these are packed away – especially those of sentimental value.
Thames Valley Electricians always aim to look after your home and leave it as we found it. When rewiring your Bracknell home, mess is inevitable. However using dust sheets and dust catchers will limit mess causing less disruption. This is even more important if it’s a lived in rewire.
Lived in or empty rewire?
Leading on from this, before the rewire you need to decide if you’ll continue living in your Bracknell property or you intend to move out. A lived in rewire is totally possible but it will take much longer and of course cost more. If you do have the luxury of moving out briefly, we would advise this. It will make your life much easier as well as ours. A lived in rewire is not the end of the world though so do not worry. We will work with you to ensure you’re never left without power and can still move around your home comfortable once we’ve packed up for the day.
Trusting your rewire electrician
Trusting your rewire electrician is important. Without trust, the rewire process will be more stressful than it needs to be. But how can you ensure your electrician has good intentions?
- Make sure the electrician is highly rated within your local community.
- Make sure they are registered and fully qualified. Ask for proof if it’s not displayed on their website.
- Look at their portfolio – is their work to your standards?
- Don’t just go with the cheapest option. You should gather a range of quotes for a big job like a rewire. However the cheapest option could cost you more in the long run.
