Rewiring your home
Rewiring your home is a big undertaking. Every room in your home will be rewired and full access will be required by your electrician. They will need to lift floorboards and carpets, cut channels into walls and remove all existing hardware. New light fitting, sockets and switches will be installed, as will a new fuse board. Your rewire electrician will speak with you before work commences to find out where you would like sockets and switches placed and if you have any new technology you would like installed. Most Wokingham homeowners will choose to vacate the property during the rewire as it can be a challenging experience to live through. Thames Valley Electricians do provide a lived in rewire service. It is worth noting that this will take longer and that not all rooms will be accessible during the process.
Every rewire electrician will have developed their own system for rewiring homes. Our experience has led us to create a highly efficient system. To minimise disruption, we aim to complete your rewire in an average of 3 days. This timeframe can increase in larger homes or in those with complex circuitry and this is something that would be discussed beforehand. Our rewire service also includes replastering the chases we will have made in your walls. Many electricians do not include this service but we believe it is far simpler for you to have us arrange it.
Our rewire process at Thames Valley Electricians is as follows:
- Day one -We begin rewiring your home by 1st marking out new socket and switch positions. These will have been agreed with you during our pre-rewire discussion. All areas of your home where we are going to chase out will be dust sheeted. We use a special dust extraction chaser and angle grinder that helps to reduce the dust levels. All chasing will be carried out. Carpets and floorboards will begin to be lifted and holes will be drilled in joists to route cabling.
- Day two - We will begin pulling cabling through and installing hardware at each pre-planned location. Your new fuse board will be installed. By the end of day 2 all cabling will be installed, and everything is made ready for our plasterer to repair your walls.
- Day three – On the 3rd day our plasterer will attend your home. They will bond and plaster the chases in your walls, repairing any damage. We then 2nd fix and energise all circuits and perform full function testing. Lastly, we clean everything up, leaving your home safely and tidily rewired in just 3 days.
